Travellers on State Highway 1 in Auckland could experience heavy traffic between Puhoi and Wellsford until 8pm this evening, while between Manukau and Bombay it is expected to be busy until 4.30pm.
Waka Kotahi said at 12.15pm that a truck had broken down on the northbound lane of the Southern Motorway, prior to the Omahu Road overbridge in Greenlane. It said motorists may be asked to slow down and should pass with extra care.
Meanwhile, two southbound lanes on the Auckland Harbour Bridge are now closed for about a week for resurfacing and other maintenance.
Police are urging drivers heading south from Christchurch to be patient after a crash caused delays on the Rakaia Bridge.
The crash earlier today closed the southbound lane on the bridge causing significant delays.
Police say both lanes are now open but southbound traffic is still backed up as far as Dunsandel.
