Police said the person was found just before midnight in Manukau near Wiri Station Road and they are working to formally identify the person.

The death has been referred to the coroner and a post mortem will be conducted.

Earlier this morning there were major disruptions to commuter trains across the city, including the cancellation of services on the on the southern line between Ōtāhuhu and Pukekohe and delays on eastern line services.

Auckland commuter Elana TKatch who usually catches a train to work earlier said today's delays were disruptive.

She said she would be late for work and expected traffic on the roads into the city to be heavy.
