In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the total number of active cases in New Zealand today is 23 and the total number of confirmed cases is 2306.

The three new cases in managed isolation came from India, the UK and Qatar.

The Ministry has also provided an update on wastewater testing for the coronavirus after weak positive results were recently detected in Wellington, Christchurch, Rotorua and Queenstown.

It said yesterday that Queenstown and Wellington have returned negative results and has now had a negative result after subsequent testing in Rotorua.

It is waiting for further teste results from Christchurch.

"The Ministry's current assessment remains that the weak positive results are likely from recent positive cases in managed isolation or due to recently recovered cases who are not infectious but continue to shed the virus after returning home or while travelling.

"There is no risk of infection from Covid-19 in wastewater."
