Police have charged a 25-year-old Wairoa man after the assault of two people at a house in Napier yesterday.
An elderly woman and her son were assaulted and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
They are both now in a stable condition.
The man will appear in the Hastings District Court tomorrow.
He has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police said in a statement that other charges may also be laid.
