Live Covid-19 updates: Wellington region enters fourth day at alert level 2

5:47 pm on 26 June 2021

Covid-19 testing has slowed down in Wellington, but Friday saw the city's SCL laboratory process a record 3760 tests.

This is according to figures from Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast district health boards, which confirmed 2345 people were swabbed for the virus on Friday.

But there have still been no positive cases, and wastewater testing has also failed to show up any community transmission.

That's despite the Sydney man who sparked the scare testing positive for the highly infectious Delta variant.

The boards' strategy planning and performance director Rachel Haggerty said testing will be available all weekend.

Testing is available at community testing centres at Te Papa, Wellington Regional Hospital, Hataitai Park, and Lower Hutt's Riverbank car park.

Anyone wanting a test should still make an appointment, Haggerty said.

The region's alert level 2 setting is scheduled to finish tomorrow at 11.59pm, with Cabinet due to meet earlier in the day to decide if it should be extended.
