A man who stole a car and fled from police and then tried to carjack another on an Auckland motorway off-ramp has been arrested.

Police said they had been looking for the man and had found him at a Kumeu property just before 10am when he bolted, stealing a car from a nearby property.
The Eagle police helicopter followed it as he drove towards central Auckland.
It came to a stop on the Khyber Pass off-ramp, where the man then allegedly tried to steal another car.
He was quickly arrested with the help of a member of the public.
The Khyber Pass offramp was closed for some time, but has since reopened.
