Overnight rain has helped subdue a vegetation fire on the Karikari Peninsula overnight.
It has burned 70 hectares of Department of Conservation land and some farmland.
District Manager Wipari Henwood says there are thirty firefighters on the ground today and two helicopters on standby.
They will be hosing down a 30 metrewide section of the perimeter to contain the blaze.
Crews will today check whether a small section of peat is burning.
