A serious crash has shut a section of State Highway 16 near the Auckland suburb of Rosebank this afternoon.

The northbound lane on SH16 has been closed between Rosebank Road and Patiki Road since about 4pm.

In an update just after 5.15pm, the transport agency said police were on-site with a serious crash investigation underway, which was expected to take a few hours.
