The installation has begun for five new slides, which will be the biggest in the country, at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre.

Parakiore is one of the city's main anchor projects, and is expected to be completed mid-2023 after multiple delays.
Christchurch City Council, mana whenua representative Matapopore, and crown company Ōtākaro have worked closely on the slide's design, which appears like silver-bellied eels in a hīnaki, or eel pot.

Council head of recreation Nigel Cox said the slides would give the city centre more character.
"This unique and authentic colour scheme gives the hydroslides added meaning and will make the St Asaph Street entrance to Parakiore a memorable sight."
Ōtākaro is overseeing the project, and its chief executive John Bridgman is confident it will be popular for both locals and visitors.
"The trapdoor hydroslide, which sends riders hurtling down at around 40km/h, will be a drawcard for the central city."

The slides will reach up to between nine and 12 metres in height.
Ten shipping containers were filled transporting the slides to Aotearoa, with some having up to seven separate sections.
Slide installation will continue for the next six months.
