Police and ambulance responded to reports of a man drowning at Whangamatā Beach.

About 4.45pm the man was reported to be in trouble in the water.
Police said another person brought the man out from the water and commenced CPR. However, he was not able to be revived.
Police are making inquiries into the death on behalf of the coroner.
