A freight train derailed in Auckland injuring three people and causing delays for commuters.
Services on the Eastern Line were halted when the KiwiRail train came off the tracks about 1.30am.
One of the injured people was treated on site and two others were taken to hospital.
The track was damaged forcing train cancellations.
Auckland Transport later resumed service on the Eastern Line at a reduced 20-minute frequency.
It is encouraging travellers to use buses to ease demand.
Eastern Line services are running between Manukau & Otahuhu to a 20-minute frequency due to an earlier incident. We recommend taking a scheduled bus. Scheduled buses are accepting rail tickets and AT Hop cards. Check AT Mobile App & Train Line Status for further info. pic.twitter.com/BuZVZTjcrO
