A homicide investigation is underway following the death of a man in Whakamārama last night.

Emergency services were called to a rural property on Old Highway at about 8.35pm.
A man was found with critical injuries, and died at the scene a short time later.
A forensic examination will begin today.
There would be an increased police presence in the area as enquires continued
