A 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Waitākere District Court today charged with murder of two people in the west Auckland suburb of Glendene yesterday.
The names of the accused and the victims have been suppressed.
Officers were stationed outside the building and in the courtroom during the hearing.
A relative of the deceased was sobbing in the public gallery, but was supported by friends and family.
The man will next appear in the High Court on 3 August.
In a statement this morning, Detective Inspector John Sutton said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the deaths and they believed those involved were known to each other.
Police inquiries were continuing and those in the area would see an increased police presence until tomorrow, he said.
Post mortems would be carried out in the coming days, police said.
