Police are appealing for sightings of two vehicles in relation to their investigation of an assault in Masterton on Monday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said two young men who were on foot were confronted by the driver of a ute near the intersection of High and Manchester streets on 26 September.
The driver pursued one of the men into Leeds Place, got out of the ute and assaulted him, Leitch said.
The victim suffered a badly broken leg and is now recovering in Masterton Hospital.
Police are now seeking information about two vehicles believed to be connected to the incident, Leitch said.
"The first is the black ute being driven by the alleged offender at the time of the assault. It is described as an older Ford or Nissan utility, with items on the tray under a tarpaulin," Leitch said in a statement.
The other vehicle is a red older model utility with a flat deck.
Police want to hear from anyone may have seen these vehicles in the Solway area at the time of the incident, or who had their vehicle tampered with that night and who has not yet reported it to the police.
They also want to hear from anyone who has a CCTV camera in that area that may have captured footage of the incident.
