Police release photo of young Kawerau mum killed in Rotorua shooting

Police are continuing to seek information into the death of Kawerau mum Korrey Whyman who died from a gunshot wound in Rotorua earlier this week.

A homicide investigation was launched after police were called to State Highway 33 in Mourea on Sunday morning, to find Whyman with a serious gunshot wound.

She was rushed to Waikato Hospital, where she later died on Wednesday morning.

Police said the incident started near Rotorua Airport where a vehicle was following another vehicle firing multiple shots. Whyman was in a vehicle that came to a stop at the Happy Angler Store & Takeaway.

Police have released a photo of Whyman on behalf of her family.

"They are devastated by her death and our thoughts continue to be with them at this difficult time."

Detective Inspector Lindsay Pilbrow said they were working through a number of lines of enquiry and wanted anyone with information to contact the police.

"We are particularly interested to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage or were driving on the route of interest.

"This was SH33 between Rotorua Airport and Mourea," she said.
