A crash involving a car and a train has left one person dead in Matamata this morning.
In a statement, police said one person died following a serious crash between a car and a train at the railway tracks on State Highway 27 in Matamata, shortly before 10am.
The highway remains closed near Puketutu Road and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
