Police in Kāpiti investigating the disappearance of a 22-year-old woman are appealing for information about a pink and purple bag that was spotted on Te Horo Beach where she was last seen, nearly seven weeks ago.

Police are seeking information about a suitcase that was spotted on Te Horo Beach on Sunday 28 August in relation to the disappearance of 28-year-old Breanna Muriwai.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson said investigators believed the bag was "significant" to the Breanna Muriwai inquiry.

"We know it was on Te Horo beach near the Sea Road beach access on the morning of Sunday 28 August," he said in a statement.

"We also know that it was removed from that area mid-afternoon on the same day.

"We are seeking anyone that saw this bag on the beach or saw it being picked up to contact police. We are also appealing to anyone who may have information as to its current location."

The High-Tech crime group was still examining Breanna Muriwai's phone, which was found on the beach two weeks ago, he said.

"A number of people have come forward with items that they have located to see if they are linked to Breanna's disappearance. We thank them for this and continue to urge the public to keep notifying us if they find any item on Te Horo Beach which they think might be related to Breanna."

Police are still asking for anyone who walks along the coastline between Te Horo and Peka Peka, including fishers and boat users, to stay vigilant for discarded items or clothing.
