The death of Sam Finnemore, 19, is being treated as unexplained, detective senior sergeant Damon Wells said in a statement.
The Canterbury student was found dead in Matipo St, Riccarton, early on Tuesday morning.

Christchurch police were not looking for anyone else in connection with his death.
A scene examination was completed and the death referred to the coroner.
