Search for missing Firth of Thames kayaker to resume Tuesday

Police say the search for a kayaker missing in the Firth of Thames since Saturday will enter its third day on Tuesday morning.

The kayaker who set out with the intention of fishing at the mussel farms was reported missing on Saturday night.

The man's kayak and fishing gear were found yesterday morning, about 5km east of Ōrere Point, which sits about 19km north of Kaiaua, inside the Auckland Region.

Coastguard, Police Eagle helicopter, Maritime Unit and an aeroplane have been scouring the area for the missing man.

Police are actively engaging with the man's family and said they would like to hear from anyone who might have been in the area or seen something.
