Nelson police have lifted cordons after a suspicious item was discovered in the central city this afternoon.
A Defence Force bomb squad from Christchurch travelled to the scene around Kerr Street and found that the item posed no risk to the public.
The item was reported to police at about quarter past one on Kerr Street. And Kerr, Konini and Gloucester Streets were initially closed by police as a precaution while the item was investigated.
