An Auckland man has been sentenced to 10 months of home detention for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.

Brandon Michael Walker, 22, was charged after investigators from the Department of Internal Affairs found over 1000 videos and images depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children in his possession.

Walker appeared in the North Shore District Court today and was found guilty on four representative charges relating to the possession and distribution of objectionable material depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

He has since given up the devices used in his offending.

In a statement, Department of Internal Affairs' Tim Houston said those viewing and sharing images like this were complicit in the sexual abuse of children and the lifelong damage it causes.
