An elderly man has been found dead inside a backpackers lodge in the central Auckland suburb of Parnell.
A police spokesperson said a body was found at a St Georges Bay Road address in Parnell last night.
The manager of Lantana Lodge Backpackers said a man in his 70s had collapsed in the hallway last night.
"He was a kind soul, a Scottish man who lived here for a long time."
A St John's spokesperson confirmed staff attended the scene at 11pm but could not revive the man.
Police are at the scene and are continuing to investigate this morning.
