A large spill of offal has closed one lane of Wellington's State Highway 1 near the suburb of Newlands.
One northbound lane was blocked between Abattoirs Road and the Newlands off-ramp due to the spill, Waka Kotahi confirmed.
"Contractors have put sawdust over the spill but it will need time to time to dry out and make the road surface safe to drive on," a spokesperson said.
"Speed restrictions and warning signs will stay in place until the remaining lane closure is removed."
The remaining three northbound lanes on the motorway were unaffected.
