A person has died in a house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Ilam.
Two fire crews were called at 3.47am to the house at Camrose Place.
Emergency services located a person deceased inside the house.
At this stage there was nothing to indicate any suspicious circumstances, police said.
They would be continuing inquiries along with Fire and Emergency.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the fire was well under way when the crews arrived.
It has since been extinguished.
The spokesperson said a fire investigator was expected on site during the morning to help police with their investigation.
