A 16-year-old has pleaded guilty to manslaughter this morning.
He killed Ōkaihau man Michael Biggins in September 2021 - at age 15.
The teen was originally jointly charged with murder, with another boy who was 12 at the time.
The younger boy pleaded not guilty to murder and will go on trial on Wednesday - he is one of the youngest people ever to face that charge in Aotearoa.
The older boy, was convicted today and will be sentenced in May.
In the High Court at Whangārei this morning, he was supported by his parents and grandparents, and held his hands clasped.
Name suppression continues.
Family of the victim also filled the public gallery.
Michael Biggins was found in a car crashed into a paddock, and died at the scene.
