Police are investigating a suspicious fire that was lit outside Wellington's National Library on Monday night.
Fire and Emergency said it was a rubbish fire which appeared to have caused only minimal damage.
The library will be open but there may be disruptions to usual hours as the police investigation goes on.
Police said a scene guard was in place overnight ahead of a scene examination on Tuesday.
Te Tari Taiwhenua / Department of Internal Affairs said no people or the taonga held in the library were in danger from the fire.
