An investigation is underway after a man was found with serious injuries in the North Island town of Whakamaru.
Police said the man was found on Arataki Road in Whakamaru, near Taupō, around 4:45am on Sunday.
"Police are working to understand how the man came to be injured."
The road was closed while police were at the scene, and diversions were in place.
Motorists were asked to take a different route or expect delays.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police on 105 and reference the event number P054327032.
