"Around this time a member of the public's vehicle has exited a driveway on New North Road.
"The police vehicle attempted to evade the vehicle, however, it has collided with the vehicle and a nearby bus stop."
One of the vehicle's occupants suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Auckland City Hospital for treatment.
No police officer was injured, Inspector Watson said.
The serious crash unit has been at the scene and an inquiry has begun into the circumstances of the crash.
Inspector Watson said some witnesses had been interviewed, however, any others were asked to contact the police via 105, quoting the reference number P054436004.
A tow truck has arrived to clear the scene.
A worker at the Hell Pizza branch near the crash said police officers were still present in the area.
He said the road cordons were making it difficult for him to get to work.
