Emergency services are working at the scene of a serious crash north of Taupō involving a caravan and they warn motorists to expect delays.
Initial reports were that four people had been injured in the two-car crash and at least two of them had serious injuries, police said in a statement.
The crash happened on SH1 at the East Taupō Arterial road, near Centennial Drive, at Rotokawa, and was reported about 2.20pm.
One of the cars was towing a caravan.
State Highway 1 was blocked at the scene, and traffic management was in place but motorists should expect delays before the road was cleared, the police spokesperson said.
