Police have recovered the bodies of two people killed in a fire at Loafers Lodge early Tuesday morning.

They expect to recover further bodies on Friday.

A black fence had been set up outside the scene, restricting parts of Loafers Lodge from view.

Adelaide Road, which has been closed since the fire, will partially reopen from 6am Friday, under stop-go management.

Police said they would like to thank Wellingtonians - particularly those who work and live in the impacted area - for their support and cooperation this week.
