A Hawke's Bay meatworks has been sentenced after a teenage worker was seriously injured by a cutting machine after just weeks on the job.
Alesana Baker, who was 17 at the time, severely damaged his hand using a lamb brisket cutter at Progressive Meats Limited in Hastings in October 2020.
His thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers were partly amputated.
The company was found guilty of health and safety failures in December.
WorkSafe said the judge's decision noted training was "completely inadequate".
The company was fined $280,000 and ordered to pay almost $50,000 in reparations.
