Police are increasing their presence in the eastern Bay of Plenty town of Ōpōtiki to support a homicide investigation.
Steven Rota Taiatini, 45, of Ōpōtiki was found with serious injuries about 11.05pm on 9 June, when police were called to a "disorder related incident" on Saint John Street.
While CPR was attempted, he died due to the severity of his injuries, police said.
On Monday, Eastern Bay of Plenty Acting Area Commander Tristan Murray said he acknowledged concern in the community.
Additional resources have been brought in from outside the district to support the investigation and provide more visibility in the area, Murray said.
"This is to offer reassurance to our wider community that may be feeling unsafe following recent gang-related events.
"We continue to urge anyone who witnesses anything suspicious or has concerns for their safety to call 111 immediately."
Speaking at today's post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said he was confident police had the resources to handle the situation.
Police are still asking anyone with specific information relating to Taiatini's death to speak to them by calling 105 and quoting file 230610/2652, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
