A motorbike rider who crashed into a parked car after failing to stop for police has died.

On Thursday, Inspector Peter Raynes said Auckland officers signalled for the rider to stop on Campbell Road in One Tree Hill as the bike was believed to be stolen.

Raynes said the rider did not stop and no pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, police were called to a motor vehicle crash, and discovered the motorbike rider had crashed into a parked car on Rawhiti Road.

The rider was in a critical condition and taken to Auckland City Hospital.

On Friday, police confirmed the rider had died in hospital on Thursday afternoon.

"We extend our condolences to their family at this difficult time," police said in a statement.

"Police inquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.

"As previously advised, as standard procedure in these circumstances, the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified of the incident."
