Five motorists, including a couple in a campervan, became trapped between slips on the Coromandel Peninsula last night.
The motorists were travelling on State Highway 25 on the Thames Coast between Tapu and Waiomu when two large slips came down, blocking both lanes.
The largest slip is south of Tapu near Ruamahunga and the other is near Waiomu.
A geotechnical engineer is travelling to the area to assess the landfall and make sure it's safe for crews to being clearing them.
The motorists were forced to wait with their vehicles at the Ruamahanga boat ramp until they can travel out.
No one has been hurt.
