Two dead in separate crashes on state highways

Two people have died on the roads after separate crashes.

One person died in a crash which had closed State Highway 3 in Taranaki's Inglewood.

Meanwhile, a person died following a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 6, Lower Shotover.

Police were called to serious two-vehicle collision on Mountain Road in Iglewood at 8.15am on Wednesday.

One other person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.

State Highway 6 is closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigates the Queenstown crash that occurred around 9.30am.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

"Traffic travelling from Lake Hayes to Queenstown is not seriously impacted at this time.

"However, traffic travelling from Queenstown to Lake Hayes is diverted via Arthurs Point."
