A person has died following a serious crash near Whatawhata, which closed part of State Highway 23.
Police said a serious two-vehicle crash near Māori Point Road, Whatawhata was reported around 9.15am.

Due to a serious crash, SH23 is now CLOSED between Horotiu Rd and Te Pahu Rd.

Waka Kotahi said SH23 was closed between Horotiu Road and Te Pahu Road due to the crash.
Detours were in place via SH39 and Te Pahu Road and motorists were advised to allow up to 60 additional minutes of travel time for journeys in the area.
Police said enquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing and the road remained blocked while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene.
