Blood donation centres around the country are getting into the Halloween spirit with creepy costumes and haunting decorations.
"We've got cobwebs and a few staff have dressed up in various costumes," NZ Blood marketing and communications manager Asuka Burge said.
"No vampires, but I've seen spiders, clowns, and Batman has appeared as well. It's a good vibe out there for our donors."
Burge said donors appreciated the spooky atmosphere.
"Days like this give us a chance to make it a bit more fun and interesting when they come and donate."
She said NZ Blood was in dire need of donors.
"We need over 5000 donations of blood and plasma every week.
"Right now we're wanting to get more plasma donors, and we need all [blood types] but specifically A and O blood groups."
Even though it was Halloween, Burge said donating blood was nothing to be afraid of.
"It's really simple, once you're on the bed it's only five to 10 minutes. You're in and out within about an hour."
Each blood donation could save up to three lives, she said.
"What you're donating absolutely makes a difference, it's life saving."
