Police do not know what caused the death of a man whose body was found in the water near Ostend on Waiheke Island on Wednesday.
"A post-mortem examination has now been completed and police are continuing to treat the death as unexplained," Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Allan said.
A member of the public found the body in the water on Wednesday morning and police were called at about 9.14am.
A burnt-out vehicle was found about 14km away on Man O' War Bay Rd and police are also investigating this.
Police are appealing to anyone in the area for information about the death,
"Locals can expect to see an increased police presence on the island as our enquiries continue," Allan said.
