One person has died in a crash that saw parts of a train track in Selwyn closed off and a train stopped.
The two-vehicle crash happened on Main South Road in Selwyn at 5.40pm on Friday.
Kiwirail said the crash involved a trailer rolling over a level crossing and hitting a train track.
In an update just after 9pm, police said one person had died.
The track was closed. Police said the Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
Traffic management was also in place, and they advised motorists to avoid the area.
