There have been a string of serious road crashes throughout the country today.
At least three people have died in the past 24 hours in crashes on the Gibbston Highway in Otago, at Waitapu in Hastings and on State Highway 2 near Dannevirke in the Tararua District.
State Highway 36 - Pyes Pa Road in the Bay of Plenty is closed after a two vehicle crash shortly before one 1pm.
The police said initial reports suggested there were serious injuries. Detours were in place, and motorists were advised to expect delays.
A section of State Highway 51 in Napier is closed at Awatoto after a single vehicle crash.
People were also seriously injured after separate collisions in Waikato on State Highway 26 at Motumaoho and State Highway 31 at Otorohanga.
