Two people are dead and five injured after two vehicles collided north of Christchurch this morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash on State Highway One, north of Waikuku, just after 10am.
Police confirmed two people from one of the vehicles died at the scene.
Three ambulances, two helicopters, and a rapid response vehicle attended the crash.
A St John spokesperson said five others were injured.
One person was critically injured and another suffered serious injuries.

They were flown to hospital by helicopter, the spokesperson said. Three others with moderate injuries were taken by ambulance.
After the crash police closed part of State Highway One and set up diversions and while a scene examination was carried out.
The highway was reopened by 5.30pm Monday.
