Person seriously injured in assault at Auckland McDonald's

A person has been taken into custody after a serious assault at a McDonald's restaurant in Auckland.

In a statement, police said a person was seriously injured at the restaurant on Stoddard Road in Wesley shortly before 8pm on Thursday and has been taken to hospital.

Police said the two people involved were known to each other and it appeared to be an isolated incident.

Cordons have been set up and extra officers are in the area.

"Police wish to reassure the public that there is not thought to be any ongoing threat to public safety."

At least seven police vehicles were seen at the scene and a large number of police officers were stood outside the restaurant.

Paramedics were also on scene.

McDonald's has been contacted for comment.
