Police have released the name of the man who died after jumping from a crane into Wellington Harbour on Friday.

The steam powered crane is on the Hikitia, which is an old ship that is permanently docked on the capital's waterfront.

Police have now identified the man who died on Friday as 33-year-old Jarreth Colquhoun.

Police said they were assisting the coroner with inquiries into his death.

The first qualifying round for the Manu World Championship dive bombing contest was scheduled to take place at a nearby diving platform on the waterfront this weekend and was relocated after the death.
