Police monitoring large numbers of Mongrel Mob members travelling through Porirua for a funeral.

Porirua's mayor said the procession would start at 8.30am on Thursday, going from Cannons Creek, through Tawa, ending up at Whenua Tapu Cemetery at 10am for the service.

The gang members are attending the funeral of a man who died in Tawa last week.

Police said they would be visible around Whenua Tapu Cemetery.

They also have approval to stop all traffic lights and stop intersections where needed.

Porirua mayor Anita Baker said a lot of gang members had already arrived and all had gone smoothly so far.

The Kāpiti-Mana Relieving Area Commander Simon de Wit said motorists could expect to see a large number of gang members and associates travelling around the region.

He urged all those travelling on the roads to not act in a way that puts other road users at risk, and said people should expect delays.

De Wit said any unlawful behaviour would be investigated.

Anyone concerned about their safety in regards to the group, or witness illegal behaviour, should call 111 immediately, he said.

Police said anyone who wanted to report the group if it caused concern could send them any footage or to call police on 105 or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
