The first front of the southerly change passed through Dunedin just before midday - our weather station in the city read 18.3°C at 11am, but 13.7°C an hour later; it is unlikely to feel much warmer than that for the rest of today! #dunedinwx pic.twitter.com/3inaR4esMP

MetService forecaster Gerard Bellam said the stormy weather was being driven by a cold front moving up the country.
"We can expect some heavy rain with falls of 10-20mm an hour, and some hail as well, with 5-15mm in diameter. That will pass through by nightfall."
