Armed police are searching for a person who fled officers in the Tolaga Bay area .
Earlier today, police said they were seeking "a person or persons who fled" when signalled to stop in the small East Coast town about 3.30am on Tuesday.
Officers are carrying guns as a precaution.
They had asked residents in the area to ensure their homes and vehicles were secure while they conducted their search.
Just after 9am police said it was safe for residents to go about their normal activities.
Armed police were searching for a person "some distance from the township in a rural area".
Anyone seeing something suspicious is asked to call 111 if it's occurring now or 105 if it is afterwards.
