A section of State Highway 5 near Tapapa in the Bay of Plenty is closed after a crash.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, and "initial indications are that there are serious injuries," a police statement said.
Emergency services were called to the scene, east of Tapapa about 3:15pm on Sunday.
The highway was closed between Tapapa Road and Maraeroa Road.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area and warned to expect delays.
