Wellington drivers are being warned of possible travel delays as police monitor a Mongrel Mob gang funeral procession.

The funeral is due to take place in Wainuiomata tonight, with a procession to Whenua Tapu in Porirua on Saturday.

Hutt Valley Area Commander Inspector Simon de Wit said officers would be on duty both days.

"Unlawful activity will not be tolerated and any unlawful behaviour will be investigated and followed up with enforcement action," he said.

There was likely to be some traffic disruption on Saturday morning between Wainuiomata, State Highway 58, and Porirua, and motorists were advised to expect some delays.

Inspector de Wit said if anyone was concerned about their safety, or saw illegal behaviour happening they should call 111 immediately.

Porirua mayor Anita Baker said it was likely the gang members and associates will travel along State Highway 58 to the crematorium.

The service there is due to start around midday Saturday.

Police said they do not have a number of how many people will be involved in the funeral or procession.

To report, or send in any footage of the unlawful behaviour, a report could be lodged online, or police could be notified on 105, or reported anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
