The family of a man who died in an e-scooter accident in Christchurch is raising funds to return his body to his homeland of Germany.

Daniel Liesy died on Friday night after his e-scooter collided with a pole near the intersection of Brougham and Waltham roads in Christchurch.

A family member has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral costs and return his body to Germany.

They say on Friday night, Liesy veered off the road on his way home and suffered a severe fall. Despite rapidly being given first aid, his injuries were too severe.

Daniel Liesy was described as an "extraordinary person who touched many lives and hearts with his warmth, care" and unwavering zest for life.

"New Zealand was a great adventure for Daniel, full of new opportunities and possibilities," Alexandra Liesy wrote.

"Here he met and fell in love with his caring partner Brenda, experienced many unforgettable journeys and moments, and made friendships both privately and professionally. Yet, his heart always beat for his homeland, for his family, and for his friends."

They said they now want to fulfil his last wish and bring him back to Germany.
