The person seriously injured during a robbery at an Auckland jewellery store on Sunday evening is in a stable condition.

Police were called to Pooja Jewellers on Kolmar Road in Papatoetoe about 5.45pm.

On Sunday, Dairy and Business Owners Group chairperson Sunny Kaushal said a group of people entered the business and hit the owner on the head with a hammer.

In CCTV footage viewed by RNZ, a group can be seen bursting through the front door of the shop, trying to grab trays of jewellery.

Those inside the store try to stop them, as they hit one man multiple times in the head with a hammer.

Police said they were committed to holding those responsible to account.
